Dear Colleagues and friends,

today we want to inform you about the actual state of affairs concerning our International Conference “Why Social Work? Perspectives of Public Welfare”.

Due to the amazing interest in participation from scholars and practicioners we decided to enlarge the number of participants. Thus more interested people have the chance to take part in the promising and groundbreaking discussion about the future of Social Work. Therefore the deadline for registration was renewed and is now September, the 1^st , 2006.  

Also we proudly present a list of speakers who are outstanding leaders and key thinkers of the current debate about Social Work and Social Policy, e.g.

- Neil G i l b e r t, Author of „Transformation of the Welfare State“,

- Mimi A b r a m o v i t z, Author of „Under Attack, Figthing Back“ and „Regulating the Lives of Women“,

- Bill J o r d a n, Author of „Sex, Money and Power: Transformation of Collective Life“,

- Lena D o m i n e l l i , Past President of the IASSW,

- Abyé T a s s e, President of the IASSW,

- Michael R e i s c h, Past President of Children Now and Author of “Social Work in the 21st Century”,

- Stephen W e b b, Author of “Situating Social Work”,

- Walter L o r en z, Past President of the European Centre for Community Education (ECCE).

All Conference-Statements and -Lectures will be simultaneously translated into English and German.

We are looking forward to inspiring debates with our national and international guests and would be very pleased if you decide to come to Bielefeld.
